Why did you decide to become a Governor at Horsenden Primary School?

I have been a Governor at Horsenden Primary School since 1995. I decided to become a Governor as I care passionately about the quality of education children receive. As a teacher at the start of my career, I wanted to not only make a difference to the children within my classroom, I also wanted to contribute to raising standards across the school. I wanted to be actively involved in setting the strategic direction as well as in the monitoring and evaluation of the school.

What do you think that Governors can bring to Horsenden Primary School?

The Governors come with a broad range of knowledge, experience and skills. They act as a critical friend being able to both challenge and support. The Governing Body ensures accountability and also adopts a strategic role, helping to shape the future direction and focus of the school. The Governors bring a great deal to Horsenden Primary School and work hard to ensure that the school continues to effectively provide for the children in its care.

What are your interests in Education?

As one of the Deputy Headteachers at Horsenden Primary School, I am passionate about all aspects of education and committed to ensuring that all children reach their full potential in all aspects of school life.

Brief history of your career, life and background

I was born in Burnley, Lancashire and, as a young girl, always dreamt of becoming a teacher! I gained a BA (Hons) degree at Bradford University in 1994 and, in 1995, gained a PGCE at Charlotte Mason College, Cumbria. I moved to the bright lights of London in 1995 when I accepted the position of Newly Qualified Teacher at Horsenden Primary School.
