A Magical Partnership

A Magical Partnership

Successful partnerships in the literary world are not new to us... Roald Dahl and Quentin Blake, Francesca Simon and Tony Ross and Jacqueline Wilson and Nick Sharratt to name a few. Words written by the authors and brought alive on the page by the artwork of the illustrators.

Neil Gaiman and Chris Riddell have also enjoyed success with books such as:

The Graveyard Book

Fortunately the Milk

The Sleeper and the Spindle, now in our Key Stage Two Library, is a mix of two well-known fairy tales, Sleeping Beauty and Snow White, retold in one story.

It is a magical book, with stunning black and white illustrations touched with gold.

Neil Gaiman has made some changes to these traditional stories. For example, Sleeping Beauty is not woken from her sleep after one hundred years by a kiss from a prince!

This is a modern version of these classic tales and features a strong heroine, in the character of the Queen.

Chris Riddell was the winner of the 2016 Kate Greenaway Medal.

This medal is awarded by children's librarians for an outstanding book in terms of illustration for children and young people.

Click on the link below to view a short video featuring both Neil Gaiman and Chris Riddell talking about how the words and illustrations together, produced The Sleeper and the Spindle.
