May Day Celebrations

May Day Celebrations

On Friday 28 April, during assembly, Mr Gami talked about the coming May Day holiday and why we have a very welcome day off!

What were May Days like in the past?

Washing in the May Morning dew is an old custom.

What are Maypoles?

The dancers hold a ribbon and weave in and out of each other around the Maypole.

What is morris dancing?

We all watched a short video showing some morris dancers, wearing bells on their legs and hats decorated with flowers.

Who is the May queen?

She leads the May Day procession.

How is May Day celebrated around the world?

In America, children place flowers in May baskets.

If you would like to learn more about May Day, why not borrow a book from the library?

We say goodbye to winter and welcome the warmer weather and seeing the flowers and trees begin to blossom...
